Top 13 Moments of 2013

It’s hard to believe that 2013 is coming to an end already. For myself, 2013 was a year of mixed emotions- there were many high points but also many low points.

In the beginning of the year, I entered my last semester of college as I was preparing to transfer to a university. As spring approached, I was planning my move to Kelowna for school. During the summer, I got news that I would be able to stay in Vancouver for school and also got my first car. Fall was spent at a new university and winter marked the first time my group of high school friends all got together since graduating.

There were some changes in my life and also many “firsts”, but the most important thing I realized in 2013 was the hardship of being an adult.

Here are my top 13 moments of 2013:

13. Eating desserts at Soreitte with an old friend before she left Vancouver

{Rose panacotta & Tiramisu}

12. Participating in the Gastown walking food tour

11. Discovering my new favourite restaurant for okonomiyaki

{Kishimoto’s okonomiyaki}

10. Baking with my cousins before the start of school

{Phyllo tarts with rosewater pastry cream and berry compote}

9. Going to Whistler, my first trip without parents, where I ziplined for the first time

8. Celebrating my 20th birthday with family

{My birthday cakes: Earl Grey & Green Tea Chiffon cake}

Christmas Eve

Now that exams are done, I’m can finally enjoy Christmas. I love this time of the year when the city is adorned with Christmas decorations. I’ve been quite lazy lately; usually during my winter break I do some baking but I haven’t done any yet.

Here’s some pictures from my winter break so far:

{Latte & red velvet candy cane doughnut from 49th Parallel & Lucky’s doughnut}

{Dog sitting Yuki for a week! She got a new Santa dress for Christmas}

{Nikatsu sandwich & French onion soup from Marulilu Cafe}

{German Schnitzel from the Christmas Market}

Thanks for reading and happy holidays!

Shiny Fuzzy Muddy Show

Last weekend I attended the Shiny Fuzzy Muddy show held at the Heritage hall. According to their website, the show takes place during the second week of December at the Heritage Hall. This year, the show celebrated it’s 10th year of supporting and promoting Canada’s brightest talent in art, fashion, craft & design, with an emphasis on Canadian-artist made products. If you are wondering about their name, it reflects the products they sell: objects of adornment (shiny), garments to wrap your home and body in (fuzzy) and clay molded to contemporary forms for the home (muddy).

On the Saturday afternoon I attended, the place was bustling with people. I didn’t have much time to browse, but here are pictures from the show:

The Least Wonderful Time of the Year

It’s that time of the year again…. final’s. Even though it’s December and Christmas is fast approaching, I can’t feel excied for anything related to the holidays because I’m stressed about finals. Life lately consists of studying, consuming copious amounts of caffeine and eating. I did however, did some shopping on Black Friday. I was pressed on time because I went before class, so I didn’t get as much as I was wanted to.

From Topshop, I got 3 dresses and a top for $10 each! A very good deal in my opinion, especially for the dresses (which I will be wearing for the holidays). The dresses are nicer in real life, the picture doesn’t do it justice.

Other than studying, I’ve been eating of course. Here are some phone pictures of what I’ve been eating:

{Pad Thai & Thai Tea from Sawasdee Thai}

{bbq pork, shredded pork and pork patty on vermicelli from Bao Chau}
