Food Filled Week

My week last week was a mix of good and bad. The week was suppose to be filled with food adventures, which it was, but I also had some bumps along the way… I had an incident with my car (nothing serious, I bumped into a parked car while trying to park) and I’m pretty sure I failed my first stats midterm (50 minutes for a stats exam is not enough, I didn’t manage to finish the last 2 pages of the midterm). Although I was feeling down from those events, I realize that it’s best to just move on and acknowledge my shortcomings.

Here are some highlights from the past 2 weeks:

{Dessert tasting}

My week started off with a dessert tasting hosted by UBC Food Society. Desserts included frissant, green tea mousse cake, pavlova, tapioca pudding, coconut chiffon cake, marjolane cake and cheesecake (not pictured).

{Rose flavoured iced hot chocolate, liege waffle with salted caramel and chocolate hazelnut spread}

{“London Fogg” hot chocolate- hot chocolate with vanilla and earl grey flavoured frozen gelato bar}

I also tried 2 places participating in the hot chocolate festival. Pictured above are hot chocolates from Chocolaterie de la Nouvelle France and Bella Gelateria.

Spring Break

After a week filled with midterms, my spring break has finally commenced. Here’s what I’ve been up to in the past weeks:

{Ate some Thai food for lunch. Pictured above is a chicken and basil dish}

{Satisfied my Thai iced tea craving}

{Went to the Farmer’s Market and tried brussels sprout and cauliflower dish from a food cart}

Street Food City 2 Food Truck Festival

I was actually unaware this was going on until I heard it on the radio yesterday while getting ready to go downtown with Cn5. Since we were already going to downtown, Cn5 happily agreed to go with me to check out some food carts. Tomorrow (January 27th) is the last day of the festival, so if you want to check it out, there is more info here.

When we arrived around 12pm, it was quite busy. It was hard to choose which food cart we wanted to try, but we finally settled on 2 to try.

Some food trucks include Yolk’s, The Juice Truck, Guanaco, Re Up, Feastro, Mom’s grilled cheese, Holy Perogy

Cn5 decided to get something from The Kaboom Box and got her food relatively fast because the line was short there.

Cn5 got the oyster po boy and upgraded her fries to a poutine. She said some parts of the sandwich was dry but she enjoyed the coleslaw in the sandwich. I tried some of the poutine, which is made with mushroom gravy, and it was decent.

I decided to try Yolk’s because a particular item on their menu enticed me. The line was quite long for Yolk’s and I think after waiting in line to order and waiting for my food, it took about 20 minutes.

Guanaco Food Truck

S.A.W asked me the other day if I have ever bought a VANEATS pass, so I dedicate this post to her LOL. Anyways, this is my first time purchasing a VANEATS dining pass. Since I don’t have a credit card, it limits my online purchasing ability, including purchasing other VANEATS passes.

Guanaco serves up Salvadoran cuisine, a cuisine I have never tried before so I was excited to try it. Their brightly coloured red truck is located infront of H-Mart on Seymour and Robson.
