Summer Loving: First Week of July

I’m a bit behind in blogging because my computer has been acting up lately but I think I’ve solved the problem. Since I didn’t post anything lats week, I’m going to separate my weekend recaps into two post. This post will consist of pictures from the first week of July.

Canada Day

My Canada day didn’t go as I had planned. I intended to go to Canada Place with my cousin before she went to work but we left the house too late and couldn’t make it in time. Instead we went to Chinatown:

We went to The Ramen Butcher for lunch. I had the Tsukemen; a cold ramen dish dipped in warm soup. It was great for the hot weather that day, but I found the broth too salty for my preference.

Afterwards, we walked over to Matchstick Coffee and I had an iced London Fog. Matchstick coffee is one of my favourite places to get a London Fog, following Steam tea house.

Afterwards, I went over to my other cousins house to celebrate his birthday and to eat some more. Following that, my friends and I had planned to go to Wreck Beach, but we never made it to the beach because one of my friends got too drunk and passed out.

Friday- July 3rd

On Friday afternoon, my cousin and I decided to bring her dog Miso to the park and have a picnic as well. We bought some snacks and sandwiches from Renzullo Food Market, a cute family-run deli in my neighborhood.

Weekend Recap: Father’s Day, Hiking and New Addition to the Family

I know, I’ve been a bad blogger. Truthfully, I haven’t been on my laptop much since it has been really laggy and with my phone and iPad, I don’t use my laptop as much.

I had a pretty good weekend, although I wasn’t feeling well on Sunday. Here’s a recap of my weekend:

Friday: early father’s day dinner at Cotto Enoteca Pizzeria

Since most my of family members were working on Father’s day (including myself), we celebrated father’s day early. My dad wanted Italian food, so I chose Cotto Enoteca Pizzeria in Burnaby because I’ve always wanted to try their pizza’s!

{We started our meal with calamari and shared the penne chicken pesto and linguine vongole pasta}

{We also shared the polpette and panchetta pizza}

{My family!}

Saturday: hiking at Stawamus Chief

Initially I didn’t have any plans for Saturday but some of my school friends were going hiking at the Chief and asked if I wanted to join. It was my first time hiking the Chief and it was actually really fun! My legs were burning though because I did an intense leg day the day prior.

{I met this sweetest dog named Sonic on the hike. He kept coming back to me because he wanted some of my sandwich but I didn’t mind at all}

{The second peak. It actually started raining when we got to the top of the second peak so we had to wait for the rain to stop before we could go back down}

Weeking Outings: The Farmer’s Market

One of my favourite weekend activities is to visit the farmers market with my cousin. Two weeks ago, I visited the Kitsilano farmer’s market, which is temporarily being held at the location where Nat Bailey’s farmer market is held. Since I was dog sitting that week, I decided to bring along Yuki. Continue reading to the end to see what I bought!

Christmas Eve

Now that exams are done, I’m can finally enjoy Christmas. I love this time of the year when the city is adorned with Christmas decorations. I’ve been quite lazy lately; usually during my winter break I do some baking but I haven’t done any yet.

Here’s some pictures from my winter break so far:

My Week in Photos: Eat Vancouver & Nightmarket

Another week, another set of photos. I haven’t been feeling well this past weekend, so I’ve been bumming around at home.

{SAW, Es S and I went to Eat! Vancouver on Friday and had a great time there. Blog post will be up soon}

{Saw these cute cat flats in the sale section of Urban Outfitters. Perfect for a cat loving person}

{Also went to the nightmarket on the same Friday. I only took a picture of my chicken karaage but I also ate other things}

Holidays

I’ve been sick the past week, hence the lack of posts. Being sick during the holiday sucks. It is almost Christmas and I haven’t done much Christmas things, such as going to the Christmas Market. I did manage to go to my cousins house and make dessert for a Christmas party on the following day. Here’s some pictures I snapped:

{Cheesecake cookie I made, I used this recipe}

Happy Holidays!

What I’ve Been Up To

November is going to be an extremely hectic month for me, I’m counting down the days until my last exam in December. My research methods class has been a big pain;I have a new found appreciation for researchers. Here’s some pictures of what I’ve been up to:

{Stepping on colorful leaves on my way to the bus stop}

{Studying biology with a royal tea latte from Marulilu Cafe}

{Eating New York cheesecake flavoured frozen yogurt topped with mochi and cheesecake from Qoola}

{Eating 10 inch chicken wrap from Taco Louis. FYI this wrap is great for poor students like myself, it only cost me $4.10 and it was very filling}

{Lastly, visiting Yuki after a long week}

I hope everyone has a good weekend and thanks for reading (even though I haven’t been updating much)!

Thanksgiving 2012

This year for Thanksgiving, I decided to make a turkey and some sides. Since I had some homework to do I only made 2 sides, and since this dinner was a last minute thing, I didn’t have much time to plan. I invited few of my cousins over since no one else could make it and luckily there was more than enough food for them to bring back to their family.

Sorry for the blurry picture!

I purchased a 10 pound turkey and brined it for 2 days. I didn’t realize that the wings were missing LOL, don’t know why they (as in the manufacturers) chopped off the wings because that’s my favourite part! I rubbed the turkey with herb butter and baked it at 325 degrees Fahrenheit until the internal temperature reached 385 degrees F, about 3 hours.

Technically I only made 1 side, being the mashed potatoes because I didn’t make the biscuits, I only baked them. I did make the gravy though, but I had no help at all so I didn’t want to overwhelm myself with too many things. If you’re wondering where the vegetables are, I was originally planning on making some, but got too lazy since everyone was waiting to eat.

The feast

We also ordered some sushi from Sushi Nanaimo, and it was delicious, as always.  Above is a picture taken after we dug in, but that’s what we ate.

We were all stuffed afterwards. The turkey turned out good and I can’t wait to make another feast next year.

To end off this post, here’s a picture of Yuki, who also came over for Thanksgiving dinner. She was watching my dad carve the turkey the whole time, hoping bits of turkey would drop on the ground haha.

Weekend Randoms

This week has been an eventful week. I watched Bourne Legacy with S.A.W and L, and I was a bit disappointed. The only thing I really enjoyed about the movie was Jeremey Renner… LOL.  I am also no longer unemployed, which I am happy about. Here are some pictures of my week from my phone:

{Got a surprise visit from Yuki. Doesn’t she looks adorable in this picture?}

{My dad found his old SLR camera and I’ve been playing around with}

 {Earl Grey tea and rosewater macaron’s from Leonidas}

{Watermelon, taro, green tea and original flavour frozen yogurt from yogen fruz. I love the new Yogen Fruz on Robson street!}

Hope everyone has a good weekend and thanks for reading!

Instagram Lately

I should really cut back my time on the computer and focus more on important things, like working out or working on my essay. I haven’t been up to much, mostly school, but I did watchThe Amazing SpidermanM and we both enjoyed it.

Here is what I’ve been up to via Instagram (@jessicayet):
