Budget Friendly Food: Fujiya’s Katsu Don

As I student, I enjoy finding food that is budget friendly and tasty. Today’s budget friendly food post is on Fujiya’s katsu don, priced at only $3.95!

Like most of Fujiya’s cooked food items, this product comes prepackaged and refrigerated. Despite the katsu don being refigerated (probably not for very long since they make their food in the morning), it is a good portion for the price you pay. Pictured above is the katsu don in its original packaging, prior to being microwaved. All you need to do is transfer the katsu don onto a plate and pop it into the microwave for about a 1-2 minutes, depending on your microwave, or you can microwave it for longer if you want it to be hotter.

Although the katsu is looses its crispiness from being refrigerated and reheated, the taste is comparable to a katsu don from a restaurant, minus the crispiness. The combination of the sweet and savoury sauce with the katsu, egg and onion created a satisfying and delicious dish. I must add that despite being reheated, the pork was not dry or tough.

I’ve bought this on a few occasions and it has been consistently good and for $3.95, you can’t find get much elsewhere for that price. So for those reasons, I will continuing buying it. A little tip for you guys, in terms of the Clark Drive location, this usually sells out after lunch so I advise going before the lunch rush or during it if you want to try one. Thanks for reading!

International Summer Night Market

Last week I went to the Summer Night Market, aka “the old night market”. I needed a new phone case and an excuse to eat night market food, and the summer night market was the perfect destination. The Summer Night Market was selected over the Richmond Night Market because we had visited the Richmond Night Market a week prior and wanted to see what the Summer Night Market had to offer.

What we ate:

{Pork intestine soup– unfortunately, there were only a 2 pieces of pork intestine according to SAW, but good nonetheless, although not as flavourful as the ones in Hong Kong or Taiwan}

{From Bubble Waffle Cafe: cheesecake bubble waffle. I love Bubble Waffle Cafe’s bubble waffle. This had a salty aftertaste to it but I still enjoyed the crispy exterior and soft interior}

{Takoyaki– piping hot but a tad undercooked on the inside}

{1/2 order of Okonomiyaki– nice flavour and crunch from cabbage. I think this is deep fried}

Home Cooking

Due to my laziness, I haven’t been blogging much lately and I apologize about that. Now I am back with more content to blog about! I’ve been trying to put more effort into cooking at home so I don’t eat out as much. My goal is to attempt to recreate the dishes I enjoy eating at restaurant so I can enjoy it at home. My problem is that I am a lazy person and I much rather have someone else cook and do the dishes for me than to have to prep my food and then cook it. Here are some dishes I cooked:

{My first attempt at making omurice. It turned out alright despite the over browned egg.}

{Rib eye steak with roasted potatoes, sauteed onions and mushrooms and a crescent roll}

{There was some leftover rice in the fridge so I made this Thai-style basil fried rice with a Vietnamese pork patty}

[Video] Cronut: New Foodie Craze in New York

I just wanted to share a video about a new food craze in New York — the cronut, a croissant- donut hybrid found at New York’s Dominique Ansel Bakery.

Hope you enjoy the video 🙂

It looks delicious, but I would probably wait until the craze dies down to try one instead of waiting in line for 2 hours. Thanks for reading and have a good weekend!

Forever 21 Recent Purchases

I just cleaned my room the other day and I realize I have a lot of clothes and the sad thing is that I tend to wear the same pieces of clothing. Lately I’ve been really into cross-printed clothing. I’m not exactly sure why I’m so drawn to cross-printed clothing but my recent purchases from Forever 21 reflect this craze.

Here’s what I got:

The first item I got is this cross printed short-sleeve blouse.

The second item I got is this studded muscle t-shirt with a diamond print. I love the stud detailing.

The last item I got is this cross print maxi skirt. You can’t tell from this picture but it has a slit on the side and underneath is actually a pair of shorts. I’ll probably add my own underskirt under this because I find the shorts too short.

So that concludes my recent purchase. Thanks for reading!
