Case of the Mondays

Hello! As you can tell, I’ve been MIA lately. I just started a new job and volunteer position, and along with that I’ve been having midterms non-stop for the past couple of weeks. I applaud those who are able to go to school full time, work and manage to obtain high grades because I am finding it difficult to find a balance. As my title states, I have a case of the Mondays, more so this Monday due to the loss of an hour of sleep from day light savings. Do any of you suffer from the case of the Mondays? For me, sleeping in on the weekends and having to wake up at 6:30 makes me zombie-like on Mondays

Since I haven’t done much lately, here are some pictures from last month…

{Valentine’s day box from Basho Cafe. I bought this as a valentines gift to myself}

{Delicious deep fried oysters from The Fish Counter. A place to check out for fish and chips in Vancouver}

{Gastown at night is very pretty}

Thanks for reading!

Quick Update

Hello! I know I haven’t been updating my blog much lately… I’ve been having a bad week so I didn’t feel like updating much. I want to announce that I have finally made a Twitter account! You can follow me @yetjessica if you desire. I tweet pictures I don’t post on my Instagram to mix things up. Anyways, that’s it for this update post, I will be making posts about what I did during my reading break soon.

9 Things

One more weekend until school starts. I’ve had a long four month summer break and after this weekend, I’ll be back into school mode. As the first day of school grows closer, I’m overcome with this anxiety that I’m not up to par academically with the others. I’ve never been the smart type, I’ve always been an average student and it’s still a miracle to me that I got accepted into UBC. I voiced my concerns to a friend, and she told me to “prove them wrong”. That’s probably one of the most encouraging words I’ve been told.

For this labour day long weekend, I share with you 9 things from my summer, taken from my phone:

  1. Rudolph on liege waffle from Nero Belgian Waffle Bar
  2. Bisquit on brussel waffle from Nero Belgian Waffle Bar– finally got to try Nero and it did not disappoint!
  3. UBC Domo plush– Spotted this at the bookstore and had to get one because it was too cute to pass
  4. Meat sauce Japanese style spaghetti from Spaghetei for my post birthday lunch with S.A.W
  5. Philly cheese steak from Vera’s Burger Shack– used the $10 coupon Vera’s sent me for my birthday and got a Philly cheese steak, which was a disappointment
  6. Red velvet cupcake from Eagles Buffet in Tulalip casino
  7. Ra bok ki & Kimbap from Cham Mami
  8. Vietnamese iced coffee from Le Pho
  9. Chicken Karaage curry fromĀ ShuRaku Sake Bar and Bistro

That concludes this post. I hope you enjoy the long weekend and what is left of summer! It already feels like Fall here in Vancouver, or should I say Raincouver. Thanks for reading!

Life Lately

Hello readers! I’ve been feeling lazy lately, hence the lack of post. A lot of has happened for me since my last post! As you may know, I was preparing for my move to Kelowna to attend UBC Okanagan, but I am no longer moving. Last Friday, I got an email from UBC informing me that a small number of spaces remain in the faculty of arts at the Vancouver campus and they are offering me admission. I was actually really shocked, because they had rejected me months ago and I wasn’t expecting anything like this to happen. I accepted the offer because I would be saving my parents at least $1k a month on rent and food, but because it was offered to me at such a late time, many of the classes I wanted to take are full.

In other news, I got a new car! Technically it isn’t “my” car because I am sharing it with my brother, but I am still happy because I can now venture into farther places to try new places to eat. Before I had to borrow my moms car to drive and it was quite the hassle because my mom always made the borrowing process complicated.

I got a 2013 Mazda 3 sport in the colour graphite. The car was purchased at Freeway Mazda located in Maple Ridge and I was impressed with our salesman Anthony.

Lastly, here are some pictures of some food I ate lately:

{Lemongrass pork chop, shredded pork and meat pie from Thai Son}

{I purchased this watermelon soda because someone on my Facebook raved about it, but I thought the taste wasn’t very watermelon like. It tasted more like those sour watermelon candies in a soda form}

[Video] Cronut: New Foodie Craze in New York

I just wanted to share a video about a new food craze in New YorkĀ ā€” the cronut, a croissant- donut hybrid found at New York’s Dominique Ansel Bakery.

Hope you enjoy the video šŸ™‚

It looks delicious, but I would probably wait until the craze dies down to try one instead of waiting in line for 2 hours. Thanks for reading and have a good weekend!

Spring Blues: Afternoon Tea & Food

I was looking at my photos from last year and I realized how much happier I was then. Now, I don’t go out much and all I do is school related work, which in turn has made me feel a bit down. I did however, try this new place on Cambie called LuvCraving for Afternoon tea with S.A.W. I forgot to bring my camera because I actually forgot that we were meeting that day until 10 mintues prior to our meeting time.. good thing I was at school, which is about 10 minutes away from the place.

Here’s a picture of our food. We got the signature afternoon tea and the petite afternoon tea:

And here is some pictures of food I’ve taken over the past few weeks:

{Blowfish bento box from Blowfish sushi; Veggie burger with salad from Roots cafe}

{London Fog & Earl Grey cake from Trafiq; Also in the picture, Geek Love, which I was reading for English class}

On the bright side, I am dog siting this week, which I quite enjoy. I hope you all have a nice, relaxing weekend!

This and That: Food & Life Lately

A while back I was having dreams with a reoccurring theme; water. I never really thought much about it because I frequently have weird dreams but during English class, my prof mentioned that water symbolizes change. Like my dream, I didn’t really think much about it because I’m not really the superstitious type. Anyways, this story is going no where but the “change” in my life is that I am possibly moving to a new city in September.

I’ll update more about that in the coming months, but as for now, here’s a compilation of some food I’ve eaten in the past month or so:

From top left to right: takoyaki via my kitchen; okonomiyaki from Marulilu Cafe; grilled pork and spring roll from this new Vietnamese restaurant called Tonkin on Main Street (the one that replaced Honolulu).

From bottom left to right: chicken and waffles from Two Chefs and a Table; takeout from Song Huong; Ebi Ten plate with added tempura crisps from Ebi Ten

I downloaded this app on my phone and decided to play with it one night and here is the end product. I’ve been eating out way too much lately and the money I received from Chinese New Year is slowly decreasing…

Vancouver weather has been nice for the past few days, too bad I have to study. I hope everyone enjoys their weekend and thanks for reading!

Spring Break

After a week filled with midterms, my spring break has finally commenced. Here’s what I’ve been up to in the past weeks:

{Went to the Farmer’s Market and triedĀ brussels sprout and cauliflower dish from a food cart}

Video: Drunken Doughnuts

With two weeks left in the semester, I still have a truckload of projects, essays and assignments to do. After completing those,I have exams on the following two weeks. Winter break cannot come any faster for me! Since I haven’t been doing much lately that isn’t school related, I present to you this video on “drunken” doughnuts, or essentially doughnuts with alcohol flavoured filling.

Skip to 0:45 and enjoy!

This and That

After finishing my biology midterm on Monday (which I’m positive I did horribly on) I finally had some time to actually have a social life this week! This included watching 2 movies, trying new foods, making a trip to Ikea and seeing Metric live in concert (which was amazing by the way!). Here are some pictures of my week via my phone and my dad’s point and shoot:

{My favourite time of the year is Christmas! I love drinking Joy Tea Latte’s from Starbucks during this time of the year}

{I don’t usually eat Mcdonalds, but I decided to try the new (to Canada) Chicken McBites }

{Breakfast combo with sausage and over easy eggs from school. Much needed after an extremely boring early morning English class}

{Pho at Pho Tan}
