3 Things

{Lemongrass beef & spring rolls from Saigon Venture}

{Homemade kimchi fried brown rice with bacon}

{New glasses for school — I love them!}

Life lately has been uneventful. The only exciting thing for me lately was attaining new glasses and getting my eye brows threaded. Other than that, I’ve been just focusing on school. I don’t have much else to say, so that’s it for this post. Thanks for reading!

Fashion Favourites: American Eagle Jegging Ankle

Since I haven’t made a non-food related post in a while, I thought I would share one of my favourites: American Eagle’s Jegging Ankle. I have a love-hate relationship with jeans because I haven’t found a pair that fits nicely. That is until I discovered the jegging ankle. For a 5’3 girl with a curvy body and short legs, I find it extremely difficult to find a pair of jeans that are just the right length and fit. Most jeans I purchase require hemming because the length is too long, but these are the perfect length for me.

Here is what I like about the jegging ankle:

  • Perfect length for shorter girls like myself (the ‘short’ length has a 26 inch inseam)
  • Comfortable due to its stretchy material
  • Legging-like fit but look like jeans (plus, they have useable front pockets, which I find many jeggings lack)

The only problem I have with these jeans is that although they run true to size for me, they do stretch out after a few wears and get looser around the knee area.

In conclusion, I would recommend these jeans for those who are shorter in height and looking for a pair of jeans that are comfortable for the most part. American Eagle’s Jegging Ankle retails for $43.55 CAD but they often go on sale! I hope you found this review useful and thanks for reading.

New Year, New Food Adventures

Happy New Years everyone! I don’t usually make resolutions because I never stick to them, but this year, I am trying to eat out less in an attempt to save money. With so many events going on in the month of January (Street Food City, Dine Out Vancouver and the hot chocolate festival to name a few…), it’s difficult not to succumb to the temptation.

I just wanted to share some of my recent food adventures, a few from December of 2013

{Chicken karaage waffle sandwich from Miura’s new location}

{ Desserts from Chez Christophe}

{I finally visited Beaucoup Bakery! I got a croissant and it was heavenly}

{Chicken Pad Thai from Bob Likes Thai Food. This was at their Broadway location, which I did not know existed}

{Coconut pudding and sweet sticky rice from Bob Likes Thai Food}

Top 13 Moments of 2013

It’s hard to believe that 2013 is coming to an end already. For myself, 2013 was a year of mixed emotions- there were many high points but also many low points.

In the beginning of the year, I entered my last semester of college as I was preparing to transfer to a university. As spring approached, I was planning my move to Kelowna for school. During the summer, I got news that I would be able to stay in Vancouver for school and also got my first car. Fall was spent at a new university and winter marked the first time my group of high school friends all got together since graduating.

There were some changes in my life and also many “firsts”, but the most important thing I realized in 2013 was the hardship of being an adult.

Here are my top 13 moments of 2013:

13. Eating desserts at Soreitte with an old friend before she left Vancouver

{Rose panacotta & Tiramisu}

12. Participating in the Gastown walking food tour

11. Discovering my new favourite restaurant for okonomiyaki

{Kishimoto’s okonomiyaki}

10. Baking with my cousins before the start of school

{Phyllo tarts with rosewater pastry cream and berry compote}

9. Going to Whistler, my first trip without parents, where I ziplined for the first time

8. Celebrating my 20th birthday with family

{My birthday cakes: Earl Grey & Green Tea Chiffon cake}

Christmas Eve

Now that exams are done, I’m can finally enjoy Christmas. I love this time of the year when the city is adorned with Christmas decorations. I’ve been quite lazy lately; usually during my winter break I do some baking but I haven’t done any yet.

Here’s some pictures from my winter break so far:

{Latte & red velvet candy cane doughnutĀ from 49th Parallel & Lucky’s doughnut}

{Post-exam celebrations @ Guu & desserts @ Society}

{Dog sitting Yuki for a week! She got a new Santa dress for Christmas}

{Nikatsu sandwich & French onion soup from Marulilu Cafe}

{German Schnitzel from the Christmas Market}

Shiny Fuzzy Muddy Show

Last weekend I attended the Shiny Fuzzy Muddy show held at the Heritage hall. According to their website, the show takes place during the second week of December at the Heritage Hall. This year, the show celebrated it’s 10th year of supporting and promoting Canada’s brightest talent in art, fashion, craft & design, with an emphasis on Canadian-artist made products. If you are wondering about their name, it reflects the products they sell: objects of adornment (shiny), garments to wrap your home and body in (fuzzy) and clay molded to contemporary forms for the home (muddy).

On the Saturday afternoon I attended, the place was bustling with people. I didn’t have much time to browse, but here are pictures from the show:

The Least Wonderful Time of the Year

It’s that time of the year again…. final’s. Even though it’s December and Christmas is fast approaching, I can’t feel excied for anything related to the holidays because I’m stressed about finals. Life lately consists of studying, consuming copious amounts of caffeine and eating. I did however, did some shopping on Black Friday. I was pressed on time because I went before class, so I didn’t get as much as I was wanted to.

From Topshop, I got 3 dresses and a top for $10 each! A very good deal in my opinion, especially for the dresses (which I will be wearing for the holidays). The dresses are nicer in real life, the picture doesn’t do it justice.

Other than studying, I’ve been eating of course. Here are some phone pictures of what I’ve been eating:

{Pad Thai & Thai Tea from Sawasdee Thai}

{bbq pork, shredded pork and pork patty on vermicelliĀ from Bao Chau}

Neglected

This blog has been neglected. I’ve been lacking motivation to do anything, including updating this blog. Truthfully, life has been uneventful lately and I’ve been feeling glum. I can’t wait until finals are over so I can enjoy Christmas (my favourite season!). I don’t have more to say so here are some photos from the past few weeks:

{Cooler Vancouver weather calls for a piping hot bowl of pho}

{Went zip lining for the first time in Whistler. It was so much fun!}

{Ramen from Nanchuu}

Food Diary: October

Hello readers! For this upcoming Remembrance day long weekend, I’ll be going to Whistler with my school’s cooking club. I am extremely excited because I haven’t been to Whistler for a long time!

I just wanted to do a short post on some foods I’ve eaten in the month of October….

  1. Oysters from Ebisu
  2. Tuna tataki from Ebisu
  3. Shots and this delicious lychee cocktail (forgot the name) from Ebisu
  4. Pad Thai from Mali Thai
  5. Halibut burger from White spot
  6. Chicken nugget meal with green tea latte from McDonalds: I had no idea McDonalds had green tea latte’s because I didn’t see any signs or advertisments and only ordered it because the cashier asked if I would like to try it. I believe it’s only available at McDonalds with McCafe’s. Verdict: not bad but a tad sweet for my liking.
  7. Delicious shrimp and pest pizza from Browns Social House
  8. Volcano roll from Ebisu: topped with tempura salmon.
  9. Chocolate praline cream puff from Beta 5 Chocolates: I was unaware that Beta 5 sold cream puffs! The one I’ve tried was heavenly.
  10. Pad Gra Pao from Mango Thai: good Thai food and friendly service on Davie Street.

After my last midterm, I met up with some friends and we had a nice dinner at Ebisu (picture 1,2,3 & 8) . We also enjoyed some alcohol which was much needed! I’m counting down the days until this semester ends so I can relax and partake in Christmas celebrations! Thanks for reading and have a good weekend! šŸ™‚

PS I dedicate this post to my friend L, who is my #1 follower and my motivator to blog :p
